I would un-hightlight Fr's segment (above) and highlight only Ol's
*portion* of it. I would continue to show the segmentation exactly as
it is now, i.e. no sub-segments in Fr's segment. There is not enough
screen resolution for that, so we have no choice. (Not sure if this
is clear. I don't have time to draw. Please ping me if it's unclear,
and we can Skype.)
However, when the user hovered the mouse along Fr's segment, then we
might highlight what it *would* look like if clicked. So the finer
segmentation could still be sensed by feel. But this is unimportant,
because it can be added without affecting anything else.

I don't see the need of the patterning. It doesn't tell us anything
and it generates moiré anomalies.

I don't think we can put positional info in the center, per this:

I still think this particular track doesn't say "progress" as clearly
as it could (per my last). But I also think the solution lies in the
toolbar, and not in the track per se. If I'm right, then your design
for the basic track visual is maybe finished.
